What the heck is Smartpox, anyway?
Smartpox is a mobile "viral messaging" application that allows you to create and share links, phone numbers, email, and text using 2D barcodes and your Java-enabled camera phone. You'll be able to create encoded messages to share with friends, acquaintances, or complete strangers. You can also create projects to link your offline world with your online world, and meet and collaborate with other Smartpox users. When they "spot" your pox, it can be saved to their profile, where they can see the full details and who created it!

Why Smart "pox"? Is this application a virus?
Our application is not a virus. The name is a shorthand way of saying "intelligent dots". The dotted pattern of the 2D barcodes contain information, rendering them "smart". Although, saying "Smartdots" didn't sound exactly right. The "pox" part came from the potential ability of the barcodes to "virally" distribute interesting content between people within the user community. Ergo, Smartpox!

Are you guys taking my information and selling it?
Fear not. We are not out to fill your mailbox with spam. We do not gather and sell information on our users to third parties. All information given to us is private, and will not be redistributed in any form.

Why won't the Smartpox reader run on my phone?
The reader was developed for newer Java-based phones running the most recent Java specifications. In order to run propperly, the application requires the following:
    • The phone's Java specification must be CLDC 1.1 and MIDP 2.0.
    • The application must be allowed access to the camera, which is not enabled on all phones.
    • The phone must have MMAPI support for the camera.
Can I still join and create Smartpox even if it can't run on my phone?
Absolutely! Even though you might not be able to read the Smartpox other people are creating, you can still create your own, and post them for other people to find. Also, we are in the process of adding new site features, and upgrading our Java reader. Who knows, you may choose to upgrade your phone, or we may soon have a version that will work on your current phone. Join the Smartpox community now, and you'll be alerted when new features or upgrades are added.
